If you get stuck in your car for any reason, be it cold or hot weather, you need to be prepared. By having just a few basic items stored in your car, it could help if you get delayed or stuck. When travelling, always ensure that your mobile is fully charged - if you do a lot of travelling, it is worth having an in-car charger in your car.

  • Torch and spare batteries – or a wind-up torch.
  • Any medication you need to take regularly.
  • First aid kit.
  • Road atlas / Sat Nav.
  • Reflective jacket.
  • Reflective warning sign.
  • Food and drink which will last.
  • Jump leads (if you already have them).

If you get caught in your car during severe cold weather, it is advised that you are carrying the following extra items in your car:

  • Ice scraper and de-icer.
  • Sufficient warm clothing and blankets for you and any passengers.
  • Shovel.
  • Food and a thermos with a hot drink in.
  • Sunglasses – the glare off the snow can be dazzling.
